Developing a Care Planning Solution for Mental Health Care with University of Manchester

In a previous blog post  we announced our  partnership with the   EQUIP Research Centre  of the  University of Manchester's School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work  in order to develop  and produce   a   specification and prototype for an interactive, user-friendly care planning solution for mental health care.  The objective of this   solution  is to    empower   the person with mental health care needs to help themselves and their carers get more from the care planning process to improve their quality of life.
In order to ensure that our Mental Health Care Planning Solution meets the needs of both the patients and the carers, enables greater efficiency, and directly improves the quality of life for patients,  we use a co-creation approach throughout this project. This approach involves facilitated workshops where we meet with patients, carers and care professionals to hear first hand their needs and suggestions for improving the care planning process.

We are excited to be in the finalization stages of Phase 1, with an   estimated completion  of    mid April, 2016!

Essentially our phase 1 deliverable includes  the compilation of a solution design, a business case and a prototype.  Patient and carer satisfaction is an important factor of our business case, as well as the objective to improve the effectiveness of care planning meetings and psychiatry out-patient appointments. This we seek to achieve through the incorporation of benefits such as:
  • The quick and secure exchange of  care information  between the solution and existing electronic systems
  • The enabling  of information gathered during care planning to be available and utilised during appointments with the psychiatrist
  • The enabling of relevant conversations during appointments, without the need to cover old ground, therefore improving efficiency

Shortly after the  completion of Phase 1, work will begin on  Phase 2 of this project which will include the completion of a  live deployment where a selected group of users --people, carers and care professionals--will test, use and assess the working solution.
